Caerphilly town centre will step back in time to the fabulous Forties next month when the popular annual Flower Festival comes to town.
On Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th July, to commemorate the 65th anniversary of VE Day, Caerphilly town centre will be transformed into a colourful Flower Festival with a 1940s twist.
Now in its 5th year, the Caerphilly Flower Festival brings local churches together with brightly coloured floral displays and exhibitions which are available to view throughout the weekend. The town will be bustling with a craft fayre, children’s activities at ‘Kid’s Go Wild’, competitions and animal displays.
Terry Walton, star of BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine Show will take centre stage at the festival with a traditional 1940s allotment, his tin shed, pigeon coupe and traditional varieties of vegetables. Come along and chat to Terry between 12noon and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
This year’s ‘Kid’s Go Wild’ event will feature a chance to meet reptiles, tortoises and owls, pot a plant, face painting, bird and plant box making, plant swap, puppetry workshops and the addition of a ‘Tea Party’, all of which are free.
Once again this year there will be a digital photography competition where visitors with a digital camera can capture their favourite part of the Flower Festival, submit their photo and win a prize. The competition is run in conjunction with Caerphilly Camera Club and is free to enter.
There will be a free shuttle bus service running throughout the festival with various pick-up and drop-off points around the town centre enabling visitors to see the stunning floral displays at six churches around the town.
