The force has been working closely with our colleagues at Gwent Police and the Ryder Cup organisers since the Celtic Manor Resort at Newport, was announced as the venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup.
The tournament is a privately organised event and the force will be playing a support role in the build up and during the tournament, assisting with traffic management processes, and ensuring the many visitors to South Wales have a safe and enjoyable time.
Chief Inspector Andy Morgan, the force lead on event planning said
“Our policing approach during the Ryder Cup will ensure a secure and welcoming environment for the spectators who will be staying within our Force area, whilst causing minimum disruption to local residents. Wales is a fantastic country and we are looking forward to working with our partners to ensure that every visitor has an enjoyable, safe and memorable time.”
Chief Inspector Andy Morgan continues
“Spectators will be travelling from across the world to experience the excitement of Ryder Cup golf, with many using travel hubs and accommodation in our force area. We will be conducting proactive crime prevention activities across our cities and towns to ensure that visitors have a safe trip, and that sensible precautions are taken.”
Chief Inspector Andy Morgan continues
“We will also be providing a small number of specialist resources by way of mutual aid, to our colleagues in Gwent, which will I’m sure be a very rewarding experience. The Ryder Cup is considered to be the 3rd largest sporting event in the World, coming behind the Olympics and the football World Cup, so opportunities to be involved in such Operations are extremely rare.”
