Margam Country Park in Port Talbot will come alive to sounds of the military over the Whitsun Bank Holiday (2nd/3rd May)
Fortress Wales is returning to the park when military groups will be taking a step back in time and carrying out a re-enactment in the spectacular grounds of Margam Park.
The highlight of the event will be the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight which doesn’t come to Wales very often. The flight features Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire aircraft.
The memorial flight is a tribute not only to the pilots who flew them in World War 2 but also as a living tribute to the young airmen and women who serve the country today.
Its patron is HRH Prince William of Wales.
Re-enactments groups attending the show include the Western Front, South Wales Borderers, Royal Warwicks, the Confederate and Union Re-enactment Society.
Also featured are the Royal Navy, the American Civil War CURS, the Monmouthshire Muzzleloaders and many more.
There will be arenas with battles and live displays, re-enactment camps, tradestands and a craft fair in the Castle.
Director for Education, Leisure and Lifelong Learning at Neath Port Talbot Council, Karl Napieralla, said, “I’m delighted to see Fortress Wales return to Margam Park – it is an ideal venue for events such as this.
“I’m sure the event will go well and everyone will enjoy a great day out over the bank holiday.
“I’m especially pleased that the memorial flypast is coming to the Park to pay a fitting tribute to the armed forces.”
The show opens from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Entry is £7 for adults, £5 for children and OAPs. Family tickets are available for £23.
