The Neath Port Talbot fostering team and foster carers joined in with the UK wide campaign “Foster Care Fortnight” to raise awareness of fostering and to recruit more carers in the County Borough.
On Monday 24th May 2010 members of the fostering team along with foster carers and BBC Wales’ Weatherman Derek Brockway celebrated the launch of the “Foster Care Fortnight” campaign with an enjoyable leisurely walk through the Afan Forest Park.
There are currently over 180 foster families looking after over 420 children and the Fostering Service needs 20 more households to come forward and foster to deal with this increasing number.
Neath Port Talbot Council Leader Ali Thomas said “Clearly we need to encourage families within our community to come forward and give a much needed home to a child. This event has been a great opportunity for our dedicated fostering team and foster carers to promote the many benefits and rewards of being a foster carer in a relaxed atmosphere and talk through any concerns they may have regarding fostering.”
The Mayor of Neath Port Talbot said “Foster carers provide support and guidance to those who need it, and this year we need 20 more foster carer households. We are especially looking for foster carers for babies and teenagers. If you feel you could be a foster carer, please get in touch with the Fostering Team. ”
