Fourth Successful Neath Port Talbot Learning Disability Week

Neath Port Talbot Learning Disability Week 2010 is a national annual event that promotes the issues that are important to people living within the community with a learning disability.

The partnerships of Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, ABM University Trust, the voluntary sector and independent sector will come together to deliver a week long series of varied events commencing on the 21st June with a photography exhibition of positive images of individuals with learning disabilities at Pontardawe Arts Centre. There will be a “get to know your neighbour” day on Tuesday 22nd June providing an opportunity for neighbours to invite each other in for a coffee or just say hello.

Neath Port Talbot Parents and Carers Group have arranged a much needed pampering day on Wednesday 23rd with a 6 mile healthy ramble from Cwm Clydach Nature Reserve to Pontardawe on Thursday 24th June. Staff from Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board will be in the foyer of Neath Port Talbot Hospital on Friday 25th with an information stand to offer advice and guidance on health matters.

Council Leader Ali Thomas said “It is vital that the needs and aspirations of those members of our communities with learning difficulties, their families and carers are fully supported and encouraged”. He added “Neath Port Talbot currently has over 500 people registered with a learning disability. I am committed to ensuring that each and every one of those residents is able to make the same everyday choices that we all make and value.”
