Free Activites on a Street Near You

This Summer Holidays Cardiff council is once again pleased to announce that the Active Street Team will be back for a third year running to entertain the kids.

The team has been established by the council’s leisure facilities and provides a range of free supervised activities for children aged eleven upwards in various areas around the city.

The activities are available throughout the summer holidays and this year some new venues have been added to the list.

The team of five will be visiting ten different locations around Cardiff and offer activities such as football, tag rugby, street hockey, skateboarding, basketball, street dance, dodgeball and parachute games. All equipment is provided and free to use.

The programme aims to encourage young people to get active by having fun playing sport and games with their friends. Activities are normally chosen by the children, with consideration to age, ability and location.

In previous years the programme has been extremely popular, on average attracting between 30 and 50 children per session.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howells, said:  “This is a fantastic free scheme and has become more and more popular each year. It makes sports and games more accessible for children and young families in local communities. It also gives them an opportunity to make new friends and play in different groups”.

As well as the scheduled venues in the programme, the Active Street Team will also be attending Play Day at the Oval Basin on August 4th and Western Leisure Centre Community Open Day on August 5th.
