Free Bus Service for the Amlin Cup Match

Cardiff Council will provide a free shuttle bus service for people attending the European Rugby Cup (ERC) Amlin Challenge Cup 2011 this Friday (May 20).

The tournament is being staged at the Cardiff City Stadium and bendy buses are being put on to transport fans from the city centre.

The buses will collect people every 10 minutes from 5.30pm onwards from gate three of the Millennium Stadium on Westgate Street and will be making return trips from the Cardiff City Stadium in Leckwith after the game until everyone has been transported back to the city centre.

Cardiff is due to be hit by rugby fever this weekend. On Friday the Harlequins and Stade Francais will battle it out for the Amiln Challenge Cup title whilst on Saturday the Millennium Stadium will host the Heineken Cup final between Leinster and Northampton.

The two-day sporting extravaganza will give rugby fans the opportunity to experience two high-profile ERC club finals in the space of 24 hours.

It is the first time that ERC have hosted the two events in the same city. Cardiff has been selected to stage these two important matches for the first- class stadia and infrastructure in place in the city.

Executive Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Nigel Howells, said: “We are delighted to be hosting these two important dates in the rugby calendar.

Cardiff has substantially invested in its infrastructure, accessibility and connectivity to become a world-class sporting city and we have a strong tradition of hosting successful national and international sporting events.

“I am thrilled to welcome rugby enthusiasts from near and far and wish them an enjoyable and action packed weekend of first class sport.”
