Monmouthshire County Council and Ramblers Cymru, in conjunction with Lantra, have devised a series of free training events, to be held over the next four weeks.
The first course is an introductory workshop to give individuals or groups an insight into how to develop an interpretation plan for a countryside project. This covers such things as audience development, collecting information, developing themes and obtaining grants.
The second course, (4th to 6th August) will involve installing stiles and gates. This course includes manual handling and training to use tools correctly.
Course three (20th to 22nd July and 10th August) takes in bridge construction. Participants will build a footbridge over a local path and will later move to County Hall in Cwmbran to assemble a wooden kit bridge ready for installation.
The final course is being held on 9th and12th August and will examine map reading, waymarking, surveying and pathcare.
Participants must dress appropriately. In addition steel toe capped boots must be worn for courses two and three and those attending should also bring their own food and drink.
The courses all run for one day and participants can choose which of the four courses they would like to do. Places are limited so contact Adam Rourke on 07530 306052 for further information.
