Free fitness sessions at centre’s celebrations

There’s an opportunity to try out fitness classes for free during the anniversary celebrations of Michael Sobell Sports Centre, Aberdare, this week.

Staff at the sports centre will mark its 40th anniversary on November 11, 2010. Visitors on the day will be able to try Zumba from 12-12.30pm, Pilates from 12.45-1.15pm and Body Pump from 1.30-2.00pm with fitness guru Suzy Hopkins.

There will also be taster sessions in Boxercise and Body conditioning throughout the morning, and introduction to Kettle bell.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s
more card team will have a stall with information about how the Leisure card can save customers money when using the Council’s leisure facilities. There will be refreshments and a free raffle, with prizes including one-to-one personal training sessions with qualified gym instructors; golfing umbrellas and other items.

Michael Sobell Sports Centre, Aberdare, was officially opened by HRH the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, on November 10, 1970.

On November 11, the Dragon Sport scheme also celebrates ten years of providing sporting opportunities for local children.

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s
Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, Cllr Robert Bevan, said: “We hope customers old and new will visit the centre on the day and maybe try out some new fitness sessions. Michael Sobell Sports Centre was one of the first generation of sports centres built in Wales and offers an exciting range of activities and classes to suit all ages and tastes.”
