North Wales Police have been handing out free food to the elderly and vulnerable in Rhos following the cancellation of a large conference in the village.
The Stiwt Theatre was scheduled to host the Chief Constable’s “Roadshow” for police officers and staff as part of a series of events being organized by the new Chief Constable, Mark Polin, setting out his vision and plans for the Force.
But heavy snowfall in the Wrexham area meant the event had to be called off and organizers were left with enough buffet food, including sandwiches and cakes, to feed 200 people.
Working in teams, they delivered the free food to several elderly care homes and the addresses of vulnerable people in the community.
Inspector Lisa Surridge of North Wales Police said: “We were delighted to be able to offer assistance to the elderly and vulnerable people of Rhos . We could not have done this without the help of staff from the Stiwt and local Councillor Paul Pemberton.
“It has been an excellent example of the community coming together in a difficult situation.”
Stiwt manager Rebecca Griffiths said that food had been ordered in advance to feed the visitors and that the Stiwt, police and caterers agreed that the best thing to do was make it available for people in the community for free.
