Free Health & Safety Advice and Support for Businesses

Conwy and Denbighshire Councils have teamed up with Healthy Working Wales and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to improve awareness amongst local businesses of the range of free Health & Safety resources available to them.

As part of the campaign, the Councils have organised two free Health & Safety advice surgeries.

24th May 2011 at Conwy Business Centre, Llandudno Junction (8.30-12noon).

7th June 2011 at  Pavilion Theatre, Rhyl (8.30am – 12noon).

Businesses are welcome to call in or make an appointment, where they will have access to free and confidential advice from qualified Health and Safety Officers and Advisors.

Businesses are invited to bring copies of their risk assessments and Health & Safety policies for advice relevant to their particular business.

Local businesses are also invited to take advantage of the free services available through Healthy Working Wales, including:-

Workboost Wales:  free practical and confidential advice, including workplace visits to help employers;

Staff can help with any occupational, physical or mental health issue including those relating to the new Fit Note.   Call 0800 107 0900 to help minimise the impact of ill-health on your business.

Phil Rafferty, Head of Service at Conwy and Denbighshire Councils said: “It’s important that businesses can identify and control health and safety risks in the workplace.  We’ve organised these advice surgeries to give businesses an opportunity to check that their Health and Safety documentation complies with the law and is fit for purpose.”

“I hope as many businesses as possible take advantage of this opportunity, and that by raising awareness we’ll see an overall improvement in documentation, training and compliance with important Health & Safety legislation, and most importantly a reduction in accidents and ill health.”

Businesses should also be aware that HSE has developed a number of free example risk assessments, which show what a completed risk assessment looks like for a range of different business types.  These examples can be used as a guide when completing your own. When thinking about recording your findings, HSE have also produced a template which you can fill in to complete your risk assessment requirements.

If you work in a low risk office based environment or charity shop, you can complete your risk assessment quickly and easily online by using HSE’s new web-based tools.  You can select the risks and actions that are relevant for your workplace and then save and print your completed risk assessment.  It should take no longer than 20 minutes to complete.
