Children of soldiers of The Royal Welsh recently enjoyed a free ice skating session at Deeside Leisure Centre, which was given to them in tribute to their parents’ dedication and bravery.
The Flintshire County Council-run leisure centre made the gesture in recognition of the incredible work done by the troops, who are based nearby at Chester’s Dale Barracks.
Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, Executive Member for Leisure and Public Protection, said:
“Many of our servicemen and women are away from their loved ones for long periods of time.
“We hope that offering them an activity such as this goes some way to recognising the excellent job our troops are doing every day and we would like to offer our support for those individuals and their families.
“We wanted to give the children a fun activity to do, bring families together and allow them to enjoy some quality time and a great day out.
“Hopefully this goes at least some way to saying ‘thank you’, and, who knows, one of these children could be a future ice skating star!”
