Free ‘Little Green Bus’ for Haverfordwest

Two free new buses have been added to the Haverfordwest Town Bus service.

The ‘Little Green Bus’ service will run every 15 minutes between Haverfordwest Bus Station and Withybush Retail Park.

Powered by vegetable oil, the shuttles (services 301 and 304) are free between the two sites. Other stops on the routes will be charged at the flat rate of £1.60 (adult) or £1.05 (child).

The Little Green Bus service starts tomorrow (Thursday, 11th November).  The bus stops are at Haverfordwest Bus Station (stand 6) and outside the new M&S store at Withybush.

The buses have been purchased by Pembrokeshire County Council with funding from the Welsh Assembly Government – via the South West Wales Integrated Transport Consortium (SWWITCH) – for a Sustainable Travel town project.

“There is plenty of parking in Haverfordwest Town Centre, so shoppers now have the option of parking their vehicle there and shopping in town, with the convenience of taking a free bus to Withybush if they so wish,” said Cllr Jamie Adams, Cabinet Member for Highways and Planning.

The funding for the new buses coincided with the arrival of new key retailers at the Withybush Retail Park site, which has raised issues of sustainability of transport to the site, increased traffic and the need to maintain links to the town centre.

In light of this, Haverfordwest Town Service has been redesigned, making full use of the two vehicles being purchased.

Some changes to the 311 and 313 services have been necessary to ensure that broader bus operations within the town work in the most beneficial way.  See below for a summary.
