With the launch of National Markets fortnight on Saturday 23 June, Flintshire County Council is pleased to announce the opportunity for local people to learn about a career as a market trader.
A free course is to be held over five days between 17 and 24 July at Holywell Library and covers a variety of elements to support potential new market traders, from selling skills and advice on trading standards, through to product research, display techniques and a visit to a wholesaler.
The course tutors are experienced market traders themselves, and offer guidance and support beyond the course, to help encourage attendees to then take the plunge and set up on one of Flintshire’s markets.
To assist with this, new traders can currently trade at Holywell market at free or reduced rates for a set period of time, something which is open to all new traders, whether they have been on the course or not.
National Market Day 2012 (which actually runs for a fortnight, due to markets being on varying days) is a result of one of the recommendations in the recent Mary Portas Report, which highlighted the importance of supporting local markets.
Councillor Peter Macfarlane, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Enterprise & Leisure, said ‘’The Introduction to Market Trading course is a great opportunity for local people to learn all about market trading and what it might be like to run their own small retail business. Markets are a great way for entrepreneurs to get a fledgling business idea off the ground at relatively low cost. Markets are an important part of the retail offer of the County and help to increase town centre footfall, which provides benefit to all businesses.”
Places are limited, so if you are interested in attending the Introduction to Market Trading course, please contact Clare Madders, Regeneration Project Officer on 01352 703225 or email [email protected].
