Sports pitches across Swansea will be closed this weekend because the ground has been frozen by the current cold snap.
Pitches at Elba Road playing fields, Underhill Park and Ashleigh Road are among those run by Swansea Council that will be closed this Saturday and Sunday (January 9 and January 10) because they’ve been judged too dangerous for sport.
Wayne Evans, Swansea Council’s Strategic Manager for Leisure Operations, said: “Given the current weather forecast it’s unlikely there will be a thaw before the weekend and this means the pitches aren’t safe to play on.
“While Swansea has escaped the worst of the snow this week, the freezing temperatures have hardened the ground and this increases the risk of injury to people participating in sports fixtures.”
The Council’s Active Swansea indoor sports and leisure centres will be open as usual for fitness fans looking to keep active over the weekend.
