Fry ups help raise cash for children’s charity

A full fry up was on the menu at a children’s charity breakfast event which marked the start of a three-month campaign to raise thousands of pounds.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Wrexham, Councillor Ian Roberts and his wife Hilary were special guests at the Children in Need charity breakfast organised and held at Frankie and Benny’s in Eagles Meadow shopping centre, Wrexham.

For one morning only, all breakfasts served from 9am to 12 pm were free with staff at the busy restaurant requesting a donation instead.

Tara Cunningham, area marketing coordinator for the popular restaurant chain, said: “Frankie and Benny’s in Wrexham supports Hope House all year round but at this time of year, it joins forces with the rest of the restaurants across the UK on a huge fundraising drive for three months in aid of Children in Need.

“Frankie and Benny’s in Wrexham held the charity breakfast to get the ball rolling here.”

Around 80 people enjoyed their charity breakfast including many local business owners and representatives from other companies and stores in the busy Wrexham shopping centre.

Tara said: “It was a lovely event because many people brought their families with them and everyone was very generous with their donations which was great.”

The charity breakfast certainly set things off to a ‘frying’ start, raising more than £200.

One of the generous diners that day was Councillor Ian Roberts, Mayor of Wrexham, and his wife Hilary.

Cllr Roberts, who enjoyed a full fry up while he was there, said: “It was a lovely invite to accept and I absolutely congratulate the staff at Frankie and Benny’s for the amount of work they are doing towards raising money for Children in Need.”

It was the first time Mr Roberts has been to the restaurant at Eagles Meadow and he said: “I think I will be going again because we thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast and the service and everything was wonderful.

“I certainly won’t be needing anything at lunchtime today!”

Charity breakfasts mark just the start of the fundraising drive at the Wrexham restaurant. Nationally, a competition has been held over the last few weeks for children and their families to design a Pudsey Bear pizza with the winning entry staying on the menu for the next year. For every pizza sold, the restaurant chain has donated £1 towards Children in Need.

And in November, staff in Wrexham will be staging a fun day to be held at a venue yet to be decided which will include a balloon race, a raffle, stalls and a whole host of fun things for the whole family.

Eagles Meadow Manager Kevin Critchley said: “I think it is very important for businesses to play their part in raising money for charity and Frankie and Benny’s latest efforts are a great example of the huge amount of charity work which goes on at Eagles Meadow.

“Children In Need is a terrific cause and I know our visitors are just the type to have given generously to a charity such as th
