Lessons in circus skills, a knitting workshop and the chance to practice rugby tackles will all be on offer at a family fun day for housing association tenants.
The free event on Thursday, August 18, at the John Bright Leisure Centre, Llandudno is open to all tenants of Cartrefi Conwy, North Wales’ largest social landlord.
The housing association took over responsibility for more than 3,700 homes from Conwy County Borough Council nearly three years ago.
According to Cartrefi Conwy Community Involvement Coordinator, Victoria Kelly, there will be something to suit everyone at the free-to-attend family fun day.
She said: “We want to see as many of our tenants as possible come along and enjoy a free day out with lots on offer.
“There will be an absolutely huge range of activities for all of our tenants to get involved with including knitting workshops, gardening advice, tips and demonstrations, a jobs fair, tea dance, lots of children’s games and attractions and the special, Cartrefi’s Got Talent contest.”
Victoria added: “It doesn’t matter if you’re five, fifty or 105 if you can sing, dance, tell jokes, do magic or anything else entertaining, so long as it’s nothing dangerous and is suitable for a family audience!
“We want tenants to get involved and there is a £250 voucher prize up-for-grabs for the winning act so it‘s well worth having a go.
“And for the more sport minded there’s a seven-a-side football competition and a rugby workshop which will be run by staff of the North Wales Rugby Academy.”
Cartrefi Conwy Chief Executive Andrew Bowden said: “We are sponsors of the Centre of Excellence at the Rugby Academy and our relationship is all about how you can improve your quality of life through exercise and teamwork.
“We want to engage with the younger people and while they are taking part in these activities we can talk to them about Cartrefi Conwy and what we do and how they can get involved within their estates and in the community.
“Last year’s Family Fun Day proved a huge hit and we had over 700 tenants attend – it was a fantastic day with lots of things to do and a range of activities for the young, for families and for older tenants too.
“There was a real sense of community and a carnival atmosphere and this year we’d really like our tenants to come along and beat that record attendance and have a great time.”
However, although the fun day is free to attend Victoria says she hopes tenants will give a little bit back by taking time out to express their views on how the social landlord can improve the services they offer their tenants.
She said: “In return for all the fun day activities we want to hear the views of tenants on a range of issues. We want to know how they think we can improve the services we offer.
“We also want to explain all about our new property improvement projects and get people involved and taking an active part. We want tenants to come along and have a good time but also take away plenty of information too.
“And of course if we can get people involved in any of our projects that would be a bonus. There will be also be lots of information stands and services on hand for people to talk a range of experts and gain advice and help if they need it.
“The main thing is that people come along, have fun and, hopefully, help us to improve the services we offer all our tenants.”
