Denbighshire County Council has welcomed news of Welsh Government funding of £300,000 towards a potential new library for Prestatyn.
The £300,000 award is part of a £1.2 million Welsh Government funding package, announced by CyMAL (Friday).
The current library is in need of substantial investment to bring its condition up to modern day standards and the Council has been consulting on plans to develop the library at an alternative location in the town centre.
Jamie Groves, Denbighshire’s Head of Leisure, Libraries and Community Development, said: “We are delighted to have been successful in our bid for funding.
“What we want is a facility that is fit to provide and develop the wide range of services that we offer in Prestatyn. This funding helps bring that dream a step closer to reality, but there is further consultation, discussions and a planning application to submit before we can progress with our plans.”
R. Arwyn Jones, Lead Officer: Libraries, Archives and Arts, said: “We now have an opportunity to develop an exciting and ambitious library for the people of Prestatyn.
“Libraries are at the heart of their communities offering local people a wide range of services including free borrowing of books, free computers, as well as access to a wide range of information in many formats, including DVDs and audio. They are shared spaces with friendly helpful staff, where everyone, from the youngest baby to our oldest residents, is welcome.”
