Monmouthshire County Council aims to increase sports participation and physical activity by making extra funds available to local clubs and organisations via its Community Chest budget and this year the interest generated by this summer’s Olympics and Paralympics has resulted in a further £67,000 to boost sport in the county. Administered by Sport Wales in partnership with Monmouthshire County Council , Community Chest supports the development of grassroots sport throughout the country with every local authority area operating a panel awarding grants to ensure local decision making.
Additional funding will also be available to help tackle sports participation inequalities in Wales, including opportunities for black minority ethnic populations, people with disabilities, women and girls, and children, young people and families experiencing poverty.
All clubs and organisations are eligible to submit an application for funds while those that have already benefited from this year’s (2012/13) Community Chest scheme can now apply for an extra £1,500 grant linked to the legacy of the Games and the targeting of inequality in sport.
