Pembrokeshire Assembly Member Angela Burns and Liz Brombley Chairperson, and members of the Pembroke Borough Soroptimists visited the H.O.P.E (Hyperbaric Oxygen Pembrokeshire Endeavour) centre based in Neyland to donate some much needed funds to the centre.
The facilities at H.O.P.E , which include a hyperbaric chamber and physiotherapy department, allow patients to benefit from breathing oxygen at pressures above that of the normal atmosphere. The results of this can include improved mobility, speech and eyesight and give a general feeling of well being. It has proven to be very beneficial for those with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and is also increasingly used for a great many other conditions including some forms of aftercare cancer and surgery. The physiotherapy department facilities are also used on a regular basis by Pembrokeshire Parkinsons Group.
Angela Burns said “I am so pleased to be able to support such a truly wonderful cause and would urge anyone to visit and support the centre. These are unique facilities that are only partially funded by the government and that funding is under threat. It does seem incredible that this centre prolongs peoples well being and keeps them out of hospital, yet if the funding is cut, the cost to the local health board in people having to use hospitals and support services will be considerably more than the funding.”
“The Soroptimists are delighted to support H.O.P.E” said Liz Brombley “and I am delighted to present this cheque for £485.00 on behalf of The Club”.
