South Wales Police investigating the murder of 17-year-old Aamir Siddiqi are reappealing for information.
Two men aged 39 and 35 arrested yesterday afternoon in the Broadway area of Roath, Cardiff, remain in custody.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Superintendent, Stuart McKenzie said: “Yesterday’s arrests are a significant development in our investigation and the two men are being questioned in connection with the death of Aamir.
“We have had an excellent response to our appeal for information and we are receiving a lot of information from the community directly into the incident room and also through other routes such as house to house enquiries, at our mobile police station and via Facebook.
“I wish to thank all those who have already come forward – your assistance is invaluable. However, I am certain there are people out there with information who have not yet spoken to us.
“I am hoping that yesterday’s arrests will encourage more people to come forward.
“Despite these arrests we are still very much appealing for information. I would urge anyone who has information of the tragic death of Aamir to contact the incident room at Cardiff Central Police Station on 02920 571530 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Divisional Commander for Cardiff Chief Superintendent Bob Tooby said: “Our officers are continuing to work closely with the community and support Aamir’s family.
“In agreement with Aamir’s family, members of our Neighbourhood Policing Team will be attending a Tribute Football Match for Aamir at Heath Park later today offering reassurance to anyone who has concerns about what has taken place.
“This event demonstrates how well-loved Aamir was by his friends and his popularity within the community.”
