The Local Government Minister has confirmed plans for a direct rail link between Ebbw Vale and Newport have been delayed again.
South Wales East AM Mohammad Asghar has learned that Network Rail’s Grip 3 feasibility report will not yet be published – despite assurances it would be made public ‘shortly’ last month.
Atkins Consultants were asked to undertake an independent assessment of the Report. Subsequently, areas of the report require further discussion with Network Rail.
Mr Asghar said: “This report has already cost £280,000 and the Minister said in August that a copy would be placed in the Assembly library ‘shortly’.
“I am absolutely staggered by this latest delay.
“People across South Wales East have had enough of the constant hold-ups and uncertainty with regards to the rail link.
“We need transparency and leadership from the Minister.
“He needs to come clean and announce whether or not the Welsh Government is committed to developing this crucial rail link.
“Welsh Conservatives remain committed to the rail link and I will continue to lobby for the best deal for the people of South Wales East”.
