Wrexham Swimming Club continued with their recent good form with another impressive medal haul at a swimming gala held at Wrexham Waterworld.
The Cath Ankers meet is one of the most prestigious and anticipated swimming galas for North Wales and the North West of England and attracted over 300 swimmers from as far afield as Fleetwood and Blackpool.
The new Mayor and Mayoress of Wrexham, Cllr Jim Kelly and his wife Elizabeth, saw Wrexham Swimming Club bring home an astonishing 48 medals, including 22 golds. The meet also saw a total of 119 Personal Best times achieved by the swimmers as well as breaking their meet record by 13 minutes and 15 seconds. Many visiting teams praised the facilities at Waterworld, which regularly holds national swimming galas.
Mike Price, Head Coach at Wrexham Swimming Club said ‘On behalf of Wrexham Swimming Club and Wrexham Waterworld I am extremely proud of the successes and achievements of all our Wrexham swimmers. To have gained a total of 48 medals at the event is a fantastic achievement and a fitting tribute to all the hard work and dedication shown by our swimmers here at the Club. We have top class facilities here in Wrexham and we are currently putting together a top class team to complement it. The Mayor’s visit added to the success of the day and rightly showcased Wrexham and Waterworld as a leading venue for national swimming events.”
In addition, the club participated in the North Wales Swim League Finals last weeknd in a gala held in Llandudno. The team performed brilliantly and are now making arrangements to go to Carmarthen where they will take part in the Welsh Leauge Finals. On Saturday 3 July member of the Swimming Club will be fundraising at the Marks and Spencer store in Wrexham between 11 and 2pm and will be raising money to fund their transport to Carmarthen.
