Education Minister Leighton Andrew has welcomed £471,000 from the Future Jobs Fund to create 71 jobs in Wales.
Since the Fund began in July 2009 the scheme has created 4,300 jobs and attracted £27 million to Wales.
The ‘Future Jobs Fund’ supports the creation of jobs for long term unemployed young people. Run by the Department of Work and Pensions, the scheme aims to create 150,000 temporary jobs until 2011. These will be aimed primarily at 18-24 year olds who have been out of work for six months or more.
The new jobs created are as follows:
Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training will create 60 jobs in Ceredigion; 20 of which are in the green sector. The jobs include positions in retail, sports and leisure, care, environmental, recycling, tourism and media.
Creative and Cultural Skills will create jobs in nine regions across the UK including 10 jobs in Wales, all as apprenticeships. Roles include IT and Customer Services Officers, Business Administrator, Community Arts Officer, Events Officer, Music Business Administrator, Theatre Technician, and Costume and Wardrobe Assistant.
Aspire Foundation will create jobs across the UK including one job in Wales.
Leighton Andrews said:
“The 4,300 jobs and £27 million that has been invested in Wales since the creation of the Future Jobs Fund is great news for the Welsh economy and the labour market as a whole.
“We will continue to support bids for funding as it’s crucial that we create sustainable employment for young people in Wales while providing them with the skills needed to protect their futures.”
