Cardiff Trading Standards are warning residents to be vigilant of a new scam from an overseas company claiming to be able to help people claim a German pension if they have previously worked or lived in Germany.
The company claims to be based in Brussels and have offices in Germany. Trading Standards and the European Consumer Centre have looked into this, and found no evidence of such a company at the addresses provided.
Deputy Leader of Cardiff Council and Executive Member for Housing, Communities and Social Justice, Councillor Judith Woodman, said: “People should be vigilant of such letters – no matter how professional they look – when they offer a potential windfall in return for private and sensitive information.
“I would urge residents to never provide personal information to any third party unless you are 100% sure about the legitimacy. If in doubt, don’t.
“If you receive any suspicious correspondence that you think may be a scam, please contact Consumer Direct Wales on 08454 04 05 06.”
