March has arrived and a range of exhibitions and events has been organised at Swansea’s cultural venues to give people a spring in their step.
Attractions being held at Swansea Museum, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and the Dylan Thomas Centre will keep people of all ages and interests entertained.
Some of the events and exhibitions include:
- The Skin Deep and Sail Swansea exhibitions at Swansea Museum. Skin Deep details skin decoration from the days of Captain Cook to the present day while Sail Swansea tells the story of sailing in Swansea Bay from the early Royal Regattas to modern sailing around Mumbles, Swansea and Gower.
The Swansea Museum Collections Centre in Landore is also holding open days every Wednesday in March from 10am to 4pm for curious visitors to delve further into their stored treasures.
- Three exhibitions accompanying the permanent collection at Swansea’s Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.
These include the Secret Writing and Hidden Faces exhibition that brings together 20th century works on loan from Amgueddfa Cymru National Museum Wales which are shown in the context of the collection of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery. Welsh singer and songwriter Al Lewis will also be performing in the gallery’s atrium on Friday March 19 at 3.30pm.
- The launch of Nocturne in Blue by Byron Beynon on Friday March 19 at the Dylan Thomas Centre. Entry and wine is free.
The Dylan Thomas Centre also houses an extensive collection of Dylan Thomas memorabilia in the permanent Man and Myth exhibition and is home to a cosy, bookshop café.
Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “There’s always a fantastic selection of events and exhibitions at our cultural venues and March is no different.
“The wide variety of entertainment means visitors can have both a fun and an educational experience.”
