Get active to burn festive flab

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to get in shape and lead a healthier lifestyle and Swansea Council’s Active Swansea sports and leisure centres are here to help.

Joining fees and induction costs are being waived at the start of 2010 to encourage more people to use the sports facilities at Penlan, Penyrheol, Bishopston, Cefn Hengoed, Morriston and Swansea Tennis Centre.

Cardiovascular equipment, resistance machines, free weights, badminton, swimming and an array of exercise classes are among the activities and technology available to ensure workouts are both fun and effective.

Expert advice is also on hand from qualified fitness instructors if needed.

Active Swansea membership starts at £20 per month and offers users:

  • Unlimited use of the gym.
  • Unlimited use of swimming pools.
  • Entry to fitness classes.
  • Access to racquets sports including off-peak use of the Tennis Centre

Membership of one Active Swansea facility also means you can get access to all six centres across the city and discounts are available under the Passport to Leisure scheme and other initiatives to those who are eligible.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “The start of a New Year is a clean slate for many people when they often set fitness goals and strive to become more active.

“We work hard to support people as much as we can by providing the best possible facilities and activities at a price that won’t break the bank.

“Exercise is a great way to socialise, let off steam and have fun.”
