The first in a series of free lantern-making workshops will take place this weekend when local people of all ages can create their own colourful lanterns ready for this year’s River of Light parade.
The popular annual parade takes place in Caerphilly town centre on Thursday 17th December. The lantern-making workshops will be held at Caerphilly Leisure Centre on the weekends leading up to the big event (28th & 29th November and the 5th & 6th, 12th & 13th December) between 10am and 5pm.
The workshops give children and adults alike the opportunity to make their very own lantern encouraging creativity and originality. The sessions will be run by local artists with all materials provided free of charge.
The lanterns made at the workshops will then be paraded through the streets of Caerphilly at the River of Light event. This year’s special 10th anniversary parade promises to be a fantastic end to Caerphilly county borough council’s events programme for 2009.
Children who wish to take part in the workshops must be accompanied by an adult if under 12 years of age, with no more than four children per adult.
