Get Ready for Christmas in the Capital

Christmas celebrations in the capital are set to be even bigger and better this year, with Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland celebrating its 10th anniversary.

The Christmas countdown in the capital begins on Wednesday 10 November with the official Christmas Lights Switch On. Expect festive fun, special guest appearances, music and fireworks. The date also marks the official opening of Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland.

Winter Wonderland will once again be based at City Hall Lawns, set against the magical backdrop of City Hall.

The Admiral Open Air Ice Rink, Ice Café Bar and John Lewis Wheel will offer over 50 days of seasonal cheer. Opening from 10 November 2010 to 3 January 2011.Tickets for Cardiff’s number one Christmas attraction are now on sale and can be purchased from Ticketline UK on 029 20 230 130.

Executive Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Nigel Howell, said: “Christmas in Cardiff is always a magical time and this year it’s even more special with Winter Wonderland celebrating its 10th anniversary.

“A jammed packed programme of festive fun is once again planned to celebrate Christmas and the new year for all the family to enjoy. “

Over at Cardiff Bay the Christmas celebrations begin on December 4 with ‘On the Road to Christmas’ hosted by the Waterfront Partners. Family friendly entertainment starts from 5pm, then join Santa as he switches on the Christmas lights followed by a spectacular firework display. Festive market stalls will also be open, from midday until early evening all weekend.

As the decade draws to a close, Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland will provide the backdrop for ‘Calennig’- the city’s traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations.
