Get Ready for the Big Gig

The Big Gig returns and this year the winner of the competition will win the amazing opportunity to appear at the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Special City Celebration, presented by Coca-Cola, in Cooper’s Field Cardiff; details of which will be announced later this month.

All finalists will also have the opportunity to receive air play on Nation Radio and studio recording.

The Big Gig competition held at The Globe, Albany Road, Cardiff is open to all bands in the South Wales area with the closing date for entries Friday, April 20.

The entries will be whittled down and split into two groups, under-18s and over-18s.

On May 7 the under-18s category will take part in a live final, featuring all the artists who have battled through heats organised by the Under Construction Festival.

On May 8 those short listed in the over-18s category will battle for their place in the Grand Final. The six best bands will then compete to perform at the ‘London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration at the Big Gig Grand final on 9 May 2012.

Judges of the Grand Final will include John Rostron, renowned music promoter and founder of Swn Festival and Dave Owens, respected music critic of the South Wales Echo.

All three nights of The Big Gig take place at the Globe music venue with tickets prices at £5 per night and £3.50 for concessions.   The competition will be judged by representatives from Swn Festival, Nation Radio and Cardiff Council.

The winners of the youth and over 18s finals will get the money can’t buy opportunity to have their music played on Nation Radio. artists. They will also receive studio time at the Machinerooms; a ‘state of the art’ recording studio in Cardiff.
