Police have welcomed results of a recent campaign to tackle alcohol related crime in the western division.
Superintendent Paul Breed, based in Caernarfon, said that there were clear signs that the message was getting across.
“We are tackling this problem with our partners and between us we are getting the right results, he said.
His comments came following an intensive two weeks campaign across the division.
Superintendent Breed said that he was particularly pleased with some of the feedback received.
He said that a test purchase operation carried out over a weekend in Caernarfon, showed 100% success with all licensed premises passing the test.
“This shows that working with trading standards we are tackling the problem in the right way and we will continue to do so,” he said.
During the campaign on Anglesey, 28 licensed premises were visited for test purchases with five establishments being reviewed in three months and four were given £80 fixed penalty notices.
But overall Superintendent Breed said that the results from Anglesey, were encouraging with an increased police presence leading to large amount of alcohol seized from juveniles.
He was also delighted with the feedback from Meirionnydd where over a weekend all licensed premises were visited by the police and the Gwynedd Licensing Officer and there no offences reported.
He said that from July 1 – 14 there had been no arrests made relating to drunkenness, however, several yellow cards had been issued to youths.
“Overall, it was a successful campaign but we are mindful that all the good work needs to continue and we need to build on what we are already doing well,” he said.
