A 20 year-old man from Tonyrefail named Corey Davies appeared at Pontypridd Magistrate Court today charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and for failure to stop after an accident.
He was remanded into custody and will appear at Cardiff Crown Court on 30 June 2014.
Police officers investigating the incident, which occurred on Saturday morning on the A4093 in Gilfach Goch, are continuing their appeal for people to come forward if they have not already done so.
Inspector Carwyn Evans, said: “I would like to thank those who have come forward in response to our appeals so far. However, there are others who we need to speak to who may have witnessed the incident or the manner that the white BMW 1 Series convertible was being driven through Gilfach Goch moments before the collision”.
CCTV enquiries have enabled officers to single out the occupants of the following vehicles as potential witnesses:
A small dark vehicle possibly a Renault Clio travelling from Gilfach Goch to Tonyrefail behind two other cars and a bus.
A silver Citroen Picasso, a black Volkswagen Beetle, and a silver Vauxhalll Vectra, travelling from Tonyrefail towards Gilfach Goch, behind another bus.
Lee Jones and Raquel Davies, who were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision, died at the scene.
