Responding to today’s launch of Plaid Cymru’s General Election manifesto Shadow Welsh Secretary Cheryl Gillan said:
“We have become all too used to Plaid Cymru’s vague, expensive wish lists at election time.
“Our experience of the Assembly elections is that they made bold promises before polling day, and once they formed part of the Assembly Government failed to deliver on them.
“Plaid Cymru are not the answer to 13 years of Labour. A vote for Plaid Cymru is a vote for five more years of Gordon Brown.
“We’ll take no lectures from Plaid Cymru on the state of the Welsh economy, when their party leader has been the minister partly responsible for it for the last three years.
“Under Plaid’s stewardship – aided and abetted by Labour and Gordon Brown – Wales now has the highest unemployment rate of any UK nation, one in four working age adults are economically inactive, thousands of young people are not in education, employment or training, major investors are closing down their Welsh operations, and investment is drying up.”
