Plaid Cymru AMs Leanne Wood (pictured) and Simon Thomas have tabled a new statement of opinion backing pensions justice for former ASW workers from Cardiff.
In the statement the Assembly Members said:
The recommendations of the Parliamentary Ombudsman, stating that former ASW workers should be paid 100% compensation as workers and pensioners from bailed out banks have received.
That their pensions would have been safe if the UK Government had provided the protections it assured workers had been put in place.
Calls on the First Minister to press UK Ministers to live up to the promises they made while in opposition to secure justice for the former ASW workers.
Leanne Wood, the Plaid Cymru AM for South Wales Central, who has been a strong backer of the ASW workers’ campaign, said: “John Benson and his former workmates deserve the utmost admiration for the way they have pursued the campaign for pension justice for almost a decade.
“Politicians who promised to support 100 per cent compensation when they were in opposition need to deliver now they are in Government.
“We felt it important that the fourth Assembly, with so many new members, should be given the opportunity to declare their support for this worthwhile campaign.
“Banks have been bailed out – it’s time ordinary working class people receive the 100 per cent compensation they deserve and are entitled to.”
