Glamorgan went back to the top of LV= County Championship Division Two with a crushing 241-run win over Worcestershire at Colwyn Bay.
Having set the visitors a nominal 417 to win, Glamorgan made light work of the Worcestershire second-innings, dismissing them for just 175. Dean Cosker did the majority of the damage, claiming his best return of the season with 4-27.
David Harrison – who replaced James Harris after the youngster was left out nursing a bruised heel – picked up 3-48, including the crucial wicket of Daryll Mitchell: the Worcestershire opener had scored three consecutive centuries in the county championship. He went for 45 and without his runs, Worcestershire struggled.
Jim Allenby moved to 33 wickets for the season as he removed Vikram Solanki – who resigned the Worcestershire captaincy after the match – for 10 and then Moeen Ali first ball. Alexei Kervezee rallied with 45 but when he was dismissed by Harrison, Cosker cleaned up the tail as Glamorgan claimed their seventh win of the campaign.
Two solid efforts with the bat had set up the opportunity of victory for Glamorgan. Mark Cosgrove bludgeoned 84 and Ben Wright 72 in the first innings before Wright made 121 not out second time around. Tom Maynard also recorded his first score of note in the county championship, making 98 as Glamorgan declared their second-innings on 397-8, setting Worcestershire a chase out of their reach.
