After a month of various University of Glamorgan student and staff activity the money is pouring in for the Glamgift project and, with more to come, we have already hit our target of £1700.
The Glamgift project aimed to raise £1700 on behalf of Oxfam to build a school in Africa. Over the course of November students and staff have undertaken a range of different projects to raise money, with courses competing with each other to raise the most.
With money still coming in the current total sits at over £2000.
The range of activities undertaken has been huge. Some have seen individuals push themselves to achieve a personal goal – such as Kevin Green who undertook a 5 mile swim. Others have seen courses come together to raise money through book sales and also cultural items from their home countries.
One such group was the MSc Management and Development of International Financial Systems students (pictured above). Drawing upon the cultures of Africa, Bangladesh and China the group sold a variety of different items including food, jewellery, clothes and paintings. The total sales from this meant that they also won the Dean’s Award for the most money raised by a scheme.
All groups that had raised money were acknowledged in the annual Glamorgan Business School Christmas celebration, an event attended by both staff and students. A range of groups were also presented with other awards that reflected the efforts that they had put into raising money for Glamgift.
Also acknowledged were the other achievements of both staff and students over the course of the year. These ranged from the undergraduate students who took “Time Out” to spend a month in Malaysia through to one of our recent graduates recently being awarded the prestigious FulBright Scholarship and the ability to study at a top American institution.
The Christmas celebration was also a chance for staff and students to relax after a busy year with some songs and mince pies. Even Santa put in an appearence.
