Glamorgan win World Record

Glamorgan broke a world record to beat Leicestershire at Grace Road and extend their lead at the top of County Championship Division Two.

The Welsh County recovered the highest ever first-innings deficit and then go on to win by ten wickets.

Having fired Leicestershire out for just 71 on the morning of day three, Mark Cosgrove bludgeoned 113 off just 111 balls to waltz Glamorgan to their victory target in just 34 overs and complete a ten-wicket win.

Gareth Rees also struck 93 for the visitors as the Welsh county made light work of their second-innings, having been bowled out for just 166 in the first-innings.

Leicestershire looked to be in control of the match having taken a 125-run first-innings lead but four wickets apiece for James Harris and David Harrison in Leicestershire’s second-innings saw Glamorgan set just 197 to win, which Cosgrove and Rees achieved with ease.

Mike Powell has been made available for a loan move away from the Swalec Stadium. The 33-year-old batsman has scored just 250 runs this season and Glamorgan preferred youngster Tom Maynard, son of head coach Matthew, for the match at Leicestershire.
