Glamorgan’s 56 year wait is over

LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION TWO, Lord’s:
Glamorgan 315 & 219 beat Middlesex 160 & 296 by 78 runs
(Glamorgan 22pts, Middlesex 3pts)

Glamorgan ended a 56-year wait for a county championship victory at the home of cricket with a 78-run success over Middlesex.

The damage was done in the first innings, where the visitors dismissed a Middlesex side including the England captain Andrew Strauss, for just 160.

David Harrison and Jim Allenby shared nine wickets as Glamorgan claimed a 155 first-innings lead, after Mark Wallace’s 79 not out helped Glamorgan to 315.

Although the Welsh county were dismissed for just 219 second time around, four wickets for Huw Walters saw Middlesex bowled out for 296, 78 shy of their target.

Dwald Malan’s 115 had seen the home side well-placed in pursuit of their 375 target but after he was caught-behind off ex-Middlesex all-rounder Jamie Dalrymple, the second new-ball ran through the tail and Glamorgan could celebrate their first win of the campaign.
