Glyn Davies, Montgomeryshire’s Conservative MP cut the tape at Friday’s opening of Yorkshire Building Society in Welshpool. The Yorkshire has stepped in to ensure a building society remains with Cadwallader and Co, Severn Street, after another building society pulled out.
Commenting on the arrival of the Yorkshire into Welshpool, Glyn Davies said;
“I am delighted that the Yorkshire Building Society invited me to open its second branch in Montgomeryshire, providing its valuable services to Welshpool, as well as Llanidloes – stepping in after another building society pulled out.”
“The Yorkshire is the second largest building society in the UK, and is growing strongly while most other providers of financial services are contracting. I have been deeply disappointed by the reduction of bank services at Montgomery, Llanfair Caereinion and Llanidloes, and its great to see the Yorkshire ‘bucking the trend’. I’m hoping it will be a success, offering the solidity and dependability that has been the trademark of the building society movement.”
“The arrival of the Yorkshire is also a vote of confidence in Welshpool, where huge changes are currently taking place. I have been a consistent supporter of the new Tesco in Welshpool, and the road system being installed at present – and I’m pleased that other businesses and services are recognising the opportunities that this will bring. Let’s all hope that this new branch of the Yorkshire Building Society is successful.”
