Glyn Davies and Russell George, MP and AM for Montgomeryshire, have taken a key step towards helping end the stigma surrounding dementia by becoming a Dementia Friend.
Glyn and Russell joined members of staff from their offices for a Dementia Friends session in Welshpool last week.
Dementia Friends is an Alzheimer’s Society initiative that aims to give people an improved awareness of the condition. The sessions aim is to improve public knowledge of dementia, by helping people understand what living with the condition might be like, and the small things that they could do to make a difference to people living in their community.
Glyn Davies MP said:
“I’ve signed up to show my support for Dementia Friends, and am encouraging people in Montgomeryshire to do the same too. With a growing number of people living with dementia, it’s more important than ever we all have a better understanding of the condition. That is why I asked everyone within my office to complete the session with me.
“Most people don’t know enough about dementia; Dementia Friends is about giving people an understanding of dementia and the small things they can do that can make a difference to people living with dementia. From helping someone find the right bus to spreading the word about dementia, it can help make our local community a better place to live.”
Russell George AM said:
“Dementia Friends is the perfect opportunity to be able to invite everyone to improve their knowledge of dementia. It was hugely valuable to learn more about how the condition can affect sufferers, and what we can all to help them.”
