Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, has called on the UK Government to give higher priority to improving cross-border road links between England and Wales.
In yesterday’s debate about transport infrastructure in North Wales, he concentrated his comments on building a new Llanymynech/Pant Bypass on the A483.
Speaking in the debate, Glyn Davies said;
“A new road is needed on the A483 to bypass Llanymynech and Pant for both safety and economic reasons. As with all England/Wales cross border road links, devolution is holding back this important road improvement. While the Welsh Government gives high priority to access to the markets in England, the UK Government does not see access to Welsh markets as significant.”
“Since the establishment of a Welsh Government, cross border England/Wales road links have dropped into a forgotten black hole. It’s crucial for the success of the Welsh economy that the UK and Welsh Government’s work together to support jobs and business on both sides of Offa’s Dyke. And there’s no better issue where a joint approach can be adopted than on the Llanymynech/Pant Bypass”
