On Monday 21st May, Glyn Davies, Conservative MP for Montgomeryshire, joined more than 60 peers and Government Ministers in the House of Commons to mark the launch of the NFU’s national Farming Delivers for Britain campaign. The new campaign will concentrate on the six key themes of food, the economy, the environment, animal welfare, careers and cleaner energy. A new NFU report revealed that farming contributed around £85 billion to the UK economy last year and provided 3.5 million jobs.
Commenting after the event, Mr Davies said:
“Farming is an industry which we can be very proud of in the UK and especially in Mid Wales. It is the economic powerhouse of Montgomeryshire and we must never underestimate its importance. Britain has incredibly high animal welfare standards and produces some of the highest quality meat which ships all over the world.
“As a farmer I am keen to support the NFU in its latest campaign which recognises farms and farmers for the vital contribution they make to Britain and its economy. Farming delivers for Britain and I look forward to carrying this message forward in support of the NFU.”
