It’s get ready, get set and go in Denbighshire as Ruthin Gaol gears up to host Olympic – themed events next weekend.
Visitors to the Gaol on Saturday, 23 July (12pm-4pm) can learn more about Olympian archaeology and the Following the Flame – Local Heroes exhibition being held inside the Gaol.
People can join Countryside Service staff to create laurel wreaths for winners, take part in a hoplitodromos (a race in full armour) and discus.
Denbighshire’s Active Lifestyles team will be arranging modern family games, including races around the courtyard and standing long jump.
A Spots and Stripes event will encourage people of all ages and walks of life to rediscover the spirit of play and light hearted competition. This is part of an initiative being run by Cadbury and Groundwork to create the largest and longest running game ever. Cadbury is inviting the nation to divide into the Spots and Stripes team and play all sorts of games in the run up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012.
There will also be a guest appearance by Paralympian basketball player, Anna Jackson.
