Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has secured Gold standard in its work to promote health and wellbeing in the workplace.
The Council has recently played host to assessors for the Corporate Health Standard, a Welsh Assembly Government scheme launched to improve employee health and well-being.
The Corporate Health Standard involves employers being assessed for their commitment to staff health and wellbeing issues such as smoking policies, sickness management, counseling, awareness-raising of physical activities and healthy eating.
Assessors from WAG spent two days in Rhondda Cynon Taf and were so impressed with the work being undertaken that they awarded the Council a Gold standard.
They were particularly pleased with the support shown to the Corporate Health Standard by senior management, including the Chief Executive and the Cabinet, and the enthusiasm of the working group striving to create a healthier workforce.
As well as speaking to the management and working group, the assessors also visited numerous Council premises and offices, where they spoke to employees and observed health promotion initiatives on offer.
Cllr Clayton Willis, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Human Resources, said: “Securing Gold in the Corporate Health Standard is a testament to our commitment to staff, their health and wellbeing.
“This success would not be possible without the enthusiasm and expertise shown by the team of committed staff who are delivering our work on the Corporate Health Standard.
“They have worked hard to put in place and promote a range of interventions to ensure our workforce are happy, healthy and have the support they need.”
