Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Station has been presented with a detailed model of the station’s former RNLI lifeboat Horace Clarkson, which served at the station between 1977 and 1986. The model, which took two years to build, was constructed by keen RNLI supporter Gordon Knight who lives near Buckley in Flintshire.
The RNLI lifeboat Horace Clarkson was a 37.5 foot Rother class lifeboat. The lifeboat was a gift from the Clarkson Shipping and insurance group costing £107,000. During the nine years she was stationed at Moelfre she launched 55 times on emergency services and was involved in rescuing 21 lives.
Mr Knight said: “My wife Pam and I have been life-long supporters of the RNLI and have visited the Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Station many times. We have always been made to feel very welcome by the volunteer lifeboat crew and are constantly impressed by their high level of commitment, dedication and training.”
Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager Rod Pace said: “We are all extremely grateful to Gordon and Pam for this wonderful gift; we have arranged to place the model in the Oriel Mon, Llangefni where it will be put on view for the public to enjoy. Once the new Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Station is built to house the new £2.7 million Tamar class RNLI lifeboat it will be put on permanent show there.”
“Looking at the model brings back many happy memories for me, as I served as a volunteer RNLI lifeboat crewmember on the Horace Clarkson, and was involved in many rescue missions with her.”
