The Gorsedd of the Bards is looking for someone to serve as the Master or Mistress of the Robes for the period until 2013.
In the first instance, the successful applicant will shadow the current Mistress, Siân Aman, who announced her retirement at the Blaenau Gwent and Heads of the Valleys National Eisteddfod last month.
Responsibilities for this unpaid post include taking special care of the Archdruid’s robes and crown, the Prose Medal winner and winner of the Crown and Chair’s robe, and the clothes of the presenter of the Horn of Plenty and the presenter of the Sheaf of Flowers.
The Master or Mistress of the Robes is also responsible for the supervision of the ceremonial items, including the regalia, which are on display at St Fagans National History Museum. There are also a number of ceremonial duties, including enrobing the winners of the three main ceremonies before escorting the winners to the Pavilion stage, and carrying the crown and sceptre during the Archdruid’s enthronement.
Archdruid, Jim Parc Nest, said:
“I would like to pay tribute to Siân Aman for her excellent work over the years, and I would like to thank her for her commitment and assistance during her time in office. We are delighted that she will continue with the work for another year so that the successful applicant can shadow her work over the next few months as he or she learns about this important role.
“I very much hope that the role will attract a number of applicants and I look forward to welcoming the new Master or Mistress to the Gorsedd Board after the Wrexham and District National Eisteddfod next year.”
Details and nomination forms can be downloaded from the Eisteddfod website – www.eisteddfod.org.uk – or you can contact the Eisteddfod offices on 0845 4 090 300 or 0845 4 090 400. The closing date is 30 November.
