The vision and direction of the Church in Wales as its approaches its centenary in 2020 will be discussed by members of its Governing Body next week.
From the upkeep of buildings to the role of bishops – members will have the chance to give their views on any aspect of church life as part of a major review to ensure the Church remains fit for purpose.
The group discussions will take place during the two-day meeting of the Governing Body at Swansea University on Wednesday and Thursday (April 27-28).
The meeting will begin with an address from the President, the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, who will outline more details of the review.
Other items on the agenda include:
- A presentation from the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales – Ruth Marks;
- A discussion on the Anglican Covenant;
- A motion to merge St Michael’s College, Llandaff with the Representative Body of the Church in Wales;
- A motion to commend the recommendations of the Historic Cases Review;
- A motion to approve the Statement of Terms of Service for Common Tenure.
The Governing Body has 143 members which include the six Diocesan Bishops and elected clergy (one third) and elected lay people (two-thirds). It meets twice a year, in April and September.
