Young people and education will be the focus of a meeting of clergy and lay people from all over Wales next week.
The first comprehensive review of Church in Wales schools will be launched and presentations from pupils and children’s officers will be given at the Governing Body of the Church in Wales.
The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, who is President of the Governing Body, will open the meeting with a keynote speech on the church’s role in education and politics.
The two-day event takes place on Wednesday and Thursday (Sept 16-17)) at the University of Wales, Lampeter.
The Education Review will be launched on Thursday morning and will include a presentation from pupils at St John Baptist High School, Aberdare. It will be followed by a press conference with the Archbishop, the Bishop of St Asaph, the Rt Rev Gregory Cameron, and the pupils and teachers taking part in the presentation.
Other items on the agenda include:
- Church Mission Society presentation on work with children in Nepal;
- A report on the International Anglican Family Network;
- A presentation on work with young people in Bangor Diocese;
- Report of Trinity College, Carmarthen;
- Discussion of new liturgy for marriage services.
The Governing Body has 144 members which include the six Diocesan Bishops and elected clergy (one third) and elected lay people (two-thirds). It meets twice a year, in April and September.
