Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, said the Welsh Government had no funding excuse to move ahead with the Newton Bypass, now that the UK Government has provided £216m of extra capital funding for Welsh infrastructure.
Responding to the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, Mr George said:
“This is welcome additional funding from the UK Government to invest in infrastructure projects in Wales to help get our economy moving.
“Welsh Ministers have the levers at their disposal and now, additional funding, to invest in our nation’s infrastructure and drive economic growth in Wales; there can be no excuses.
“The Welsh Government must now prioritise the Newtown Bypass and invest in a project that will bring maximum value for tax-payers money.”
