William Graham (Conservative AM for South Wales East) and a member of the Assembly Education, Lifelong Learning & Skills Committee that conducted a policy review of Special Educational Needs responding to the Assembly cuts in Additional Education services:
This reduction in funding will have a devastating impact upon some of the most vulnerable children and young people in our community.
Many pupils require individual teaching programmes and further assistance as they progress from primary to secondary education, then on to further/higher education or work life; together with necessary support for their families.
These cuts place the effective delivery of services for these people in jeopardy.
This is a cross-cutting matter and I would expect more than one Assembly Minister to be expressing grave concerns in the reduction of this funding.
I appreciate that we are experiencing difficult times, particularly within the public sector, but we are required to support not only the people requiring this service, but also the teachers and support staff who make a major contribution to enhancing the quality of life and future opportunities for their pupils.
